Knights Net Four in Win Number Two

MADISON, NJ (May 17, 2012) – The Brooklyn Knights earned the second win of their young season Wednesday evening in a dominant 4-1 victory over the New Jersey Rangers F.C. This triumph already exceeds the total number of wins recorded by the Knights during the 2011 season, effectively improving their record to 2-0 and earning six points thus far in the 2012 campaign.

The match began with an early score by the Rangers within the first minute of play off the foot of Anthony Moore, which seemed to almost catch the Knights off-guard.

“I’m a little disappointed how we started off the game,” said Head Coach Andreas Lindberg. “I thought it was a little unprofessional to have a goal-against in just 45 seconds, but the boys showed character and came back to score four goals.”

At the 22’ mark the Knights had a free kick at midfield, which was headed forward by Stefan Dimitrov to newcomer Dwayne Reid who was able to deliver a strong shot that found the back of the net from 18 yards out. Not long after, Dimitrov chased down a loose ball near the Ranger goal only to leave a beautifully placed drop pass for Kevin Correa to drive home and give the Knights a one goal lead. No more than three minutes later, Dimitrov ensured the Knights would go into half with momentum as he scored the third goal of the half for the Knights that gave the team a two goal advantage.

The Rangers came into the second half with a vengeance, giving the Knights all they could handle on both sides of the ball. Though goalkeeper Stefan Manz ensured the lead for Brooklyn as he stopped all three shots put on goal during the half, and stopped 9 of the 10 he faced throughout the contest. Midfielder Kyle Schlesinger recorded one more unassisted goal in the second half to seal win, which marked the second consecutive victory for the Knights.

“Obviously I’m thrilled with the result of getting six points in our first two games,” said Lindberg. “Areas we still need to improve on are our defensive shape and aggressiveness at some points, but that’s stuff that we’re definitely looking to improve on during the week.”

The Knights will be traveling to Pembroke, Bermuda for their third game of the year, a May 20 match against the Bermuda Hogges FC at the Bermuda Athletic Association Stadium.
