The Brooklyn Knights is soccer organization based in Maspeth, New York at the historic Metropolitan Oval field. The club’s U20 girls team is a diverse group of girls hailing from every borough as well as Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey ranging in age from 15 to 20 and playing successfully on the high school and collegiate levels. Coached by Andrew FitzGerald and assisted by Pierre Cooke, these hard-working and dedicated girls have traveled and played throughout the SuperY league’s Mid-Atlantic region. Currently the Brooklyn Knights sit in first place of their region with an undefeated record of 10 wins and one draw. With such a stellar record, the girls have been invited to participate in the Super 20 League’s 2010 National Championships in Rockford, IL, where they will compete against topnotch teams from around the country.
Fueled by the goals of forwards Kasey Kenny (7), DK Henry (5) and Cliona O’Dwyer (4) the Knights are strong in the offensive line and difficult to defend. Bolstered by an outstanding midfield group as well as an indomitable and consistent back line, they have the makings of national champions.
The competition at the National Championships is coordinated by the United Soccer League and the girls will play a round-robin competition for the first 3 days followed by a possible championship game on the 4th. Good luck Brooklyn Knights girls!!

MASPETH, QUEENS, NY – The Metropolitan Oval, the oldest soccer field in continuous use in the United States, will be equipping each of their goals with the Goal Alert safety system. The Metropolitan Oval is the home pitch for the USL Premier Development League Brooklyn Knights and nine USL Super Y-League or Super-20 League teams.
“With tens of thousands of kids playing on our fields each year, safety is our top priority,” Jim Vogt, President of the not-for-profit Metropolitan Oval Foundation said. “As an organization dedicated to youth soccer, one of my biggest concerns has always been soccer goal safety. Goal Alert’s products take the guesswork out of soccer goal anchoring and will make the Met Oval the safest field in the country.”
Goal Alert LLC is a purpose driven company, created to end soccer goal tip-over injuries and deaths. In 2007 and 2008 there were five soccer goal tip-over deaths in the United States alone. According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, there are somewhere between 90 and 200 serious injuries annually. There have been 35 deaths since 1979, with the average age of the victim being 11-year-old.
“The Met Oval is the field that I grew up on,” Hank Steinbrecher, the former CEO and Secretary General of US Soccer (1990 – 2000) and current Chairman of Goal Alert LLC, said. “I am very proud to be a part of bringing together a field that dates back to 1925 and a product that is ahead of its time. When Jim saw Goal Alert, he saw what I saw: a way to make the sport, that has given us so much, safer for all the kids who come behind us.”
“Working with the Met Oval is something we are immensely proud of,” Greg Dempsey, founder and inventor of Goal Alert said. “Many of the country’s greatest players played there at one time. We are grateful for the faith they have put into us and our product.”
“Goal Alert has addressed a soccer safety issue with an innovative solution,” Charles Jacob, co-founder of the Metropolitan Oval Foundation said. “We are very pleased to add the Goal Alert system at the Met Oval.”
